Karthi Wanted Love And Action – Lingusamy

November 26th, 2009

karthiLingusamy is excited about his next project Paiyya which his brother Bose is producing and he is directing under the Thirrupathi Films Media banner. Karthi is his hero and Lingusamy recalls how the script turned out to be what it is in the early days when he was writing it.

“After Bheema I was wondering what to do next. I signed Karthi as my hero and I congratulated Ameer for getting such a perfect performance out of him in Paruthiveeran. But when I spoke to Karthi I felt he didn’t want a performance oriented role alone. He wanted love and action too and he told me that he enjoyed my Run so much and would love to do something like that. I wanted 100% success after Bheema so I sat together with my assistants for 12 days and expanded on a single idea that I had.

When I narrated the finished story to Karthi he enjoyed it thoroughly even while listening to it. That’s how this story was finally ready.”

Lingusamy adds ‘The story is about a pretty girl who lands up in the hero’s car asking him to take her from Bangalore to Mumbai but a mystery follows this girl. We shot in ten schedules all over the highway and I told cameraman Mathi not to compromise for any shot even though its my own production and Rajeevan came up with some great art work. Anthony’s editing is another highlight of this film.”

With all this and more, Paiyya sure is fuelling the expectations of viewers.

Sameera goes De Dana Dan over for size zero

November 26th, 2009

sameera-reddyThe hot dusky beauty is eagerly waiting for her laugh-riot movie, ‘De Dana Dan’, to get released tomorrow.

Sameera Reddy plays a Punjabi kuddi, Manpreet Oberoi, in this Priyadarshan’s comedy, something interesting challenge for an actress of south origin. But the actress brushed off the character’s expectations as she said to have comfortably pulled off the Punjabi role. Sameera said that she didn’t work much on the Punjabi accent for the movie, for she just had to play a normal urban girl. Being a hilarious flick, the actress had her share of fun on the sets. Talking about ‘De Dana Dan’, Sameera said, “Katrina and I play girlfriends of Akshay and Suneil respectively and since we have money and they don’t, it leads to some really funny scenes. In their endeavour to make money, they steal a dog and what follows next brings in more than a couple of dozen characters together. The film is typical Priyadarshan cinema and has the kind of comedy which is completely situational.”

These days where hour-glass figures have given place to size zeroes, Sameera remains to maintain her chubby image. With slim beauty Katrina in De Dana Dan, Sameera has no concerns over her own figure. In fact the actress is not in favour of a skinny figure and explained, “See, Indian men like to see their woman in a certain shape and size but which brings on the oomph. But sorry, from a model body, you can’t expect that oomph factor. This entire ‘go skinny’ route is not setting a good example for the Indian women.” Sameera also stated that image-maintenance is all media generated. To prove her point, she refers to yesteryear actresses like Sridevi, Kajol and Madhuri Dixit who weren’t thin.

“In fact none of these women even bothered with how skinny they were. They ruled the box office and they are remembered till date because of their fantastic performances, not because of their make up and clothes,” gushed out Sameera.

Well, thin or not thin, Sam truly has a charm of her own…

De Dhana Dhan – Review

November 26th, 2009

de-dana-danEverything seems in place for this flick on paper. Take a look at it , you’ve got  the ‘Hera Pheri’ core together after ages. Though the title has nothing to do with Priyan’s superhit flick , Akshay Kumar-Suniel Shetty – Paresh Rawal feature in this one. All the more , Priyan’s favorites –Manoj Joshi , Rajpal Yadav too get their share.

If ‘Hera Pheri’ brought about then ; a rather not so popular ‘Tabu’, this one promises bolllywood’s crème –Katrina Kaif already riding high after her previous.

What’s even better is the fact that Akshay too is no less than any Khan today.

Synopsis: Nothing but a money heist with a mix of characters –Priyan style

So what’s gone wrong with this one??

Aaaaaah…well almost everything!

To start off with Priyan offers us nothing new- the same old confusion and the running around for the money, mixed portions here and there of various other flicks you’ve seen of his.

The Kidnapping , the characters running around , mistaken identities galore but the basic plot is just too loose. The dialogues are terrible and barely evoke laughter. All you hear is just a few characters yelling at each other with the typical hindi film style of ‘Tu tu main main’

What’s more annoying are the songs. Firstly , neither are worth humming and Pritam strikes a complete low with this one and to carry things forward these tracks just emerge about anytime in the film completely killing the pace. The song ‘paisa paisa’ could have been totally done away with as it just emerges at such a crux in the plot.

The screenplay is highly flawed. The first half is something you can totally sleep over as scenes don’t connect well enough and you notice sudden jumps from one to another. The introductions of characters are absolutely lame and such a downer for a Priyan flick.

On the acting front , many would rush to the theatres expecting a lot from Akshay Kumar considering his pairing with Priyan has always been entertaining. This one here is a big letdown. Akshay needs to reinvent his comic sense and style. He just overdoes it in this one with those weird expressions and poor dialogue delivery. What makes it even worse is when he seems to be getting better in the 2nd half, the script locks him up in a cupboard and for over 20 min there’s no sign of him in the film.

Paresh Rawal is another who needs to seriously reinvent his style and selection of movies. Though a Priyan favourite, he’s just a mere cut paste of his other flicks. He doesn’t make you laugh at all and is always found yelling.

Sunil Shetty is the worst of the lot . Right from struggling with the dialogue delivery to lip syncing in a song, he’s just tagging along.

Katrina Kaif just smiles her way out and smiles, no scope at all.

Sameera Reddy , like most of her films you wonder what she’s doing besides wearing some skimpy outfits.

The surprise here is Neha Dhupia who appears in a very shady song but impresses in bits and pieces with her acting skills.

Aditi Govitrikar not bad…

Shakti kapoor , Tinu Anand., Chunkey Pandey …wasted

The real showstoppers for those giggles are in order of priority – Johnny Lever ( he cracks you up big time), Rajpal Yadav ( in a few scenes that he has) and Asrani( in bits).

Out and out , with a very poor 1st half and an abrupt end to the flick , wonder if it’s going to woo the masses. If you do watch this flick, do enjoy the promo of the much awaited ‘Veer’.

Rating – 1.5/5

Hrithik with Deepika in Krrish 2!?!

November 26th, 2009

Although ‘Kites’ and ‘Guzaarish’ are often in the news, ‘Krrish 2’, Hrithik’s another project, too is seen making its way in front these days.

Earlier we had it that Rakesh Roshan will be featuring his son in double roles in Krrish 2, including a negative role. It was also mentioned that there had been a tie, over the choice heroines, between Deepika and Katrina. Now the latest sources revealed that the director-producer is considering Deepika Padukone to play the lead replacing Priyanka Chopra from the original film. But there has been no confirmation over this yet.

Stating about Hrithik’s role, sources said that Rakesh wants Hrithik to play a grey character after being impressed with his performance in Dhoom 2. It is said that Krrish will be saving the Seven Wonders of the World, thus covering various foreign locales. The shooting of Krrish 2 is expected to go on floors in September 2010.

Meanwhile our hero is busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’ with Aishwarya Rai.

Deepika says ‘No’ to a Ranbir’s film

November 26th, 2009

The rift is there for everyone to see. The grapevines went abuzz with the break-up issues of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Endless number of words described the couple’s emotions and heart-breaks, stating how silently both moved apart.

Now the latest one can hear is that Deepika seemed to have come out her alleged cocoon to carry on with her career, to start with a fresh approach. However, it is said that the tall beauty rejected a movie offer of a well-known producer. Why? Coz it had Ranbir Kapoor! “The actress turned down the proposal simply for the reason that it had Ranbir opposite her,” chirped the birdies.

Oow! The wounds are still fresh, we believe…

Appavi- Silent but Violent

November 26th, 2009

The posters of ‘Appavi’ produced by V L Dhandapani under the banner of Devi Visions are the latest talk of the town. The poster has its own way of attracting eyeballs with difference. Take a look at it and you will find the tagline “Silent but Violent”, that itself conveys the mood of the film.

Well, ‘Appavi’ is about how few anti-social elements try to create problem in society and how few good souls try to prevent it.

‘Appavi’ is scheduled to be released in the month of December.

R. Raghuraj is also penning the story, screenplay and dialogues apart from directing the film. Music composed by Joshua Sridhar for the lyrics of Vairamuthu and Na. Muthukumar is already out and getting lukewarm response in the market. Cinematography is done by E. Krishnaswamy while V.T. Vijayan takes care of editing.

‘Appavi’ stars newbies Gautham and Suhani in the main roles and veterans K Bhagiyaraj, Manobala along with Suri, Sri Ranjani and Mahadevan play important roles.

Appavi’s shooting was wrapped-up recently in Coorg Hills, after the songs ‘Rayilin Pathaiyil’ and ‘Pookinra Poo Naan’ were shot.

Next is mine: Mithran Jawahar

November 26th, 2009

“My first three films are remakes. But my fourth venture would be based on my own script,” says Mithran Jawahar. The filmmaker, who earned name with ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’, has completed ‘Kutty’ and is getting ready to remake Telugu hit ‘Ready’.

“I struggled for more than 10 years as an assistant director. I had approached many producers with my own storyline, but my efforts went in vain. And when I got the offer to remake Tollywood blockbuster ‘Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhale Verule’, I couldn’t say no,” says the director on bagging his first venture.

“Everyone appreciated me after the release of ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ that I had remade the Telugu movie well suiting to the taste of Tamil audience. One fine day, the offer to remake ‘Arya’ knocked my doors. The result is Kutty,” he says.

“When I was about to start a film based on my own story, I was asked to go for a remake again. And I am ready for ‘Ready’ now. I am searching for an apt title for the Tamil version. Dhanush and Genelia are coming together for the first time,” he says.

On working with Dhanush again and again, Jawahar says, “this one too is a sheer coincidence like how all my three ventures are remakes. At the same time, I have to say that working with Dhanush is sheer pleasure. I am very comfortable to be his colleague.”

Vaali crosses 5000 songs!

November 26th, 2009

The ever-youthful legendary lyricist Vaali is surely a man to be celebrated. He has just finished writing his 5000th song for Shankar’s ‘Endhiran’. Whatta massive achievement, we say!

“Little beetle leaf, beetle nut, few papers and a pen this is what I need to start writing a poem,” says the great man naively.

“My childhood passion was to become an artist. There was a popular artist called Maali who was working in Vikatan then. One of my close friends named me Vaali after that artist and told that I would become popular like the artist one day,” revealed the poet whose original name is Rangarajan.

It was TMS who invited Vaali to Chennai and cinema. Vaali became a household name when MGR was in his career’s peak. “I penned ‘Machchana’ Pathingala while I was working for ‘Oodum Mehangaley’ and ‘Naan Aanaiyittal’ songs meant for MGR. Same way I gave ‘Chikku Bhukku Rayiley’ for Rahman, then went on to give ‘Thathai Thathai’ for Yuvan,” says the poet with pleasure.

The 78-yr old Youngster’s songs were loved by the people of 4 generations. Yet the man is not outdated, he can still write kinky duets and give lyrics for peppy youthful songs.

Loads of wishes for the legend to give us even more memorable lines…
