Shahrukh Interview: “Controversies are nothing but ‘Chichorapan’…”

Late Wednesday evening , it was yet another milestone for the successful trio of Karan Johar-SRK-Kajol as the first look of their forthcoming flick , ‘My name is Khan’ was unveiled. For the first time ever an Indian film witnessed such kind of marketing ; thanks to the film’s association with FOX SEARCHLIGHT.

The association saw , for the first time ever an Indian movie’s promo going on air sharp 10pm IST over 70 countries across all Star Networks and its possible allies be it Vijaya, Asianet etc.

What was more exciting that evening was a tête-à-tête with Karan, Kajol and Shahrukh together taking on the volley of questions from the press after a very long time.

Karan opened up the evening stating , “ time and time, we do movies and I know its silly to say but I’m nervous.”. Dressed in black Shahrukh wittily redirected the mike to Kajol stating her speech was written by him.

Kajol took many by surprise as she quoted,” Often people ask me…Have you completed Karan’s film to which I want to state , on Shahrukh’s behalf too that Karan’s films complete us!” This indeed lay more pressure on the film as she went on to state , “People will now remember Rizwan and Mandira (their respective characters in the film) for ages to come…..IT CAN’T GET BIGGER THAN THIS.”

Whether or not , ‘My name is Khan’ overrides ‘DDLJ’ or ‘Kuch Kuch hota hai’ is yet to be seen. But glimpses of the promo relating to the 9/11 incident may be one of those risky moves, considering the fate of ‘Kurbaan’ and the overdose of terrorism flicks.

Shahrukh disagress, “My name is khan, is a love story … a journey of Rizwan Khan and is by no means , a film on terrorism.”

When questioned about his recent visit to the US and whether he was treated such cause he was a muslim , he stated “I never faced a problem because of my religion.”

To which a fellow journalist fired back at Karan stating that ‘Wake up! Sid’ worked out for him due to the controversy surrounding the use of the word ‘bombay’ instead of ‘Mumbai’. Shahrukh quickly responded back , “ Let me state something . Good actors and directors don’t waste time indulging in such ‘CHICHORAPAN’. Controversies are mere childishness and we don’t waste time on such acts .”

Further questions poured out on the favourite topic- the Aamir-Shahrukh link.

Karan and Kajol were definitely shocked to hear someone ask SRK that considering the fact that Aamir is going all out promoting his film from city to city , which untapped cities or areas would he like to promote his film.

“ I would love to go to all cities, wherever my director and distributors want me. If they say north then I go , south I go…. If they say abroad then too I go. I believe it is every actors duty not just to be part of the film but actively promote the film…but if you are wondering whether I’m going to do some vanishing act, then definitely NO!( Hinting at Aamir’s recent promotional gimmick) “, quoted Shahrukh.

The evening ended with Shahruk in the most wittiest of manners addressing a journo who questioned how Khan- a surname could be a name and be used in a title?( weird question huh?)

The smart Shahrukh dressed in a black suit placed his elbow on the arm-rest and was smoothly heard mimicking James Bond. “I’m Bond..James Bond.. I’m Khan… Shahrukh Khan.”, he replied ; cracking up the audiences.

We’ll wait and say what more is up Mr.Khan’s sleeves as he assures us a massive maketing plan and a much bigger film.
